Pros: Had this router for three months pros:
Fast speeds - maxed my internet connection of 120mbs
Reliable - never dropped connection
Concurrent 2.4/5ghz bands
Decent firmware
Cons: Tended to get pretty warm, but was always by a fan anyway so it wasn't a problem. See other thoughts.
Other Thoughts: After 3 years 2 months the 2.4ghz band stopped functioning. It rarely broadcasts whatsoever, and when it does it pushed under 1mbs. The 5ghz band still works perfectly. I tried EVERYTHING to fix it. I played with the settings (different channels, n only/bgn mixed, 20/40mhz, factory reset, custom firmware, everything. I used five different devices to test. The 2.4ghz band simply no longer broadcasts. For this I took two eggs. With an extended warranty I could recommend this product, otherwise stay away.
Pros: USB interface for printer and file server
Easy setup
sleek form factor
Cons: Overheats
Drops connections
Constantly have to reset router, wireless adapters
Poor range
Wireless printer drops
Other Thoughts: I loved the features like the printer and file server features, but it has to be reset too much. My previous router, a Netgear N600 Dual Band model, worked like a charm and never had to be reset. It lasted until a power surge killed it. This model also inexplicably reset itself of all its saved settings, so I had to go back and set everything back up and reconnect all the laptops, PCs, smartphones, WPS printer and tablets running off it. The range could be better also. The Netgear I had outperformed it in range and reliability. I haven't used the printer server and file server features yet. I will update this review once I do.
I have had to reset the router practically everyday for the past week and I have to reset my wireless adapter on my laptop several times a day. The Asus also drops the wireless printer connection CONSTANTLY. I have a router provided by AT&T for a second broadband connection. When connected to it, the connection NEVER drops, the adapter and router NEVER have to be reset. So it is the router and not my wireless adapter.
The wired ports continue to work fine, but the wireless connection dies and the router and/or adapter have to be reset. I have still not been able to utilize the nice features of the router because I cannot depend on it staying connected.
We want to extend our sincerest apology for any inconvenience this has caused you. I certainly understand your concern regarding the overheating router and it causes wireless connection drops. In regards to the overheating router, please use the following troubleshooting steps to adjust the power to avoid overheating:
Step 1. Please access the router interface, to access it, please open a browser and type into your address bar 192.168.1.1 and if it's asking 'Authentication required' please key in your router log in.
Step 2. On the router interface, please look 'Wireless' under 'Advance Settings, ' > click the Professional tab> please scroll down and look for 'TX Power Adjustment' as default it's currently 100mW, please put it to 70/80mW, then click apply and reboot the router.
If the problem still persists, please email us back so we can proceed with the RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) to fix the router problem.

Pros: I like almost everything about this router.
I really like how it handles DHCP on the WAN interface. Most routers if the modem crashes, etc it will do nothing until you go to it and reboot it.
I like how many features it has, as well as how stable it is. I have it and the modem on a UPS power backup.
It works fine with no reboot for like 6-8 months sometimes that time
I would have re-booted the modem like 4 times.
For being an advanced router, it has a nice setup wizard that can guide most people that are like a power user or are willing to learn and research.
Cons: I sort of wish that the help in the software was more detailed, and some of the things had a description or brief summary.
I think this is a good router for most people, but there are so many features there may be more cost effective alternatives for more basic users.
As a person that works in I.T I was a bit annoyed that I had to use a wizard for the initial setup.
I found the USB 'NAS' function to work okay, but security while there was kind of a pain and leaves some to be desired. IMHO it should work similar to NTFS permissions in windows. I should be able to grand/deny access, make read-only, enable/disable browsing, and execute.
Also I kind of wish it had more choices for VPN than PPTP which has some known security concerns and Open VPN which seems to have somewhat limited support. And setup is so different you have to find tutorials for it. I sort of wish they had other choices too like SSL VPN, perhaps some basic version of I.P sec.
Pros: Shiny
Has a USB port so I can connect a USB fan to prevent it from overheating
Cons: Terrible network stability (both wired and wireless)
5GHz broadcast is effectively useless.
Commonly drops LAN and/or uplink connections
Seems to overheat and throttle traffic, I solved this using a USB fan
Other Thoughts: I've had this router for about a year, and it has been nothing but jumping from one problem to the next. After several support calls with ASUS, updating the firmware, all the typical stuff - nothing has been accomplished besides learning that ASUS support is absolutely terrible.
Don't buy. It's not worth the headache.
I want to thank you for posting this review and I understand that you have an issue with your router. I apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused you but let me go ahead and further assist you. Can we have more information about the issue or the steps that was already taken to try to fix the issue? have you tried doing a power cycle or restoring the router to factory default changing channel bandwith?

Pros: Solid for 9 months.
Cons: Wifi stopped working then a day later the whole router stopped working. Spent 2 hours on the phone with ASUS having a tech continuously tell me to unplug the router and plug it back in before I got disconnected and had to call back just to get them to RMA it. I knew their customer service sucks, but took a leap of faith hoping this router wouldn't fail me.
Other Thoughts: Seriously irritated. They should start giving awards on poor customer service so ASUS can stop bloating about how many other awards they have won.
Thank your for your time in posting a review about our products. We are sorry to hea your experience with the unit and the support line. Asus Wireless Printer Setup
Pros: *Rocks at high bandwidth capabilities.
*Has connected up to 25 devices at one time for me without a serious performance hit.
*Has capabilities for multiple wireless networks with their own SSIDs with the option of keeping the networks separate or able to connect devices between them. (Basic industry level BSS/ESS/SSID Technology).
*Good size.
*Sleek and pretty design makes it nice to display.
I have owned this router for nearly two years and have not experienced a single issue. I even installed the wrong firmware update and broke it myself only to find out that the recovery instructions were easy to follow and made it a simple fix. ASUS really did it this time. I never knew they made home routers, and now I know they do it well. I've always trusted ASUS since I started in the tech industry and they have yet to let me down.
Cons: *QoS doesn't really work on low bandwidth networks. I would not recommend using it unless you have at least a 5mbsp connection but that isn't really ASUS's fault, it is the ISP's. The router is really meant to be in a small business with high bandwidth anyways.
Pros: Lets you connect to internet. Woopie... just like every other wifi router
Cons: Asus... I expected better from you guys. I really wanted this to be a great product because I do love your motherboards. First off you guys should be ASHAMED of yourself for calling this USB 3.0. 15mbps is far from USB 3.0. Tech support seriosly responded back with 'this is normal speed for this router'. Besides the fact that your advertising basically USB 2.0 as 3.0 it makes things worse because the 2 USB ports interfere with the 2.4ghz radio due to lack of shielding. Granted this router was designed before they knew about the issue HOWEVER asus should have removed what stock was available and fixed the issue. Now there are tons of people out there that have poor performing wifi on 2.4ghz along with a dead slow USB storage on top of that. The worst of both worlds. Its supposed to be an upgrade to the rt-n56u but because of these flaws it is actually worse. Wifi is constantly kicking me off and router needs to be reset.
If you would like to discuss you issue please email me in regards to your issue and place case # N140942447 in the subject line for a reference to your case. For a speedy troubleshoot please provide the following: config file, and router system log, and the firmware version you are currently using. I'm here to help you and all others with these issues, as our customer loyalty department dedicated to bringing a resolution to all issues related to our products.
Sincerely,

Pros: This Router has Better Features then any I could find from Asus, Lynksys, and NETGEAR even Outside of its Price Range.
Cons: It's Smaller then my Modem.
